I completed a double major in Psychology and Social Welfare and received dual B.A. degrees from University of California, Berkeley. I then went on to pursue my graduate studies at Azusa Pacific University where I received both my M.A. in Clinical Psychology: Marriage and Family Therapy and Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology.
In my time in university counseling centers across Southern California, I have worked with adolescents and adults struggling with trauma, grief, identity development, depression, and anxiety. As a 2nd generation Korean-American, I also have a heart for acculturation and cultural identity issues.
I have a passion for working with undergraduate and graduate students both clinically and academically and am looking forward to connecting with you.
I have also provided psychological evaluations for The Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians. Please contact me more for information in regards to this evaluation.
I believe that therapy is something that all of us need regularly like the way a car needs a tune up. Most of the time when we go to the mechanic, we'll need a quick oil change and can maybe even wing it ourselves. However, after the car has put on some miles, it needs a bit more maintenance to change the brake pads, realign the wheels, and possibly even replace the transmission, you want a professional to help you through that process.
I also believe that good therapy should work itself out of a job. The point of therapy is for you to be able to take care of what you need to take care of professionally so that you can go out there and keep living your life with the support of the relationships you build outside of therapy.
Lastly, I believe that therapy is a difficult process that we need to prepare for. While we go to school for math and language arts, most of us have not learned how to deal with our emotions, how to figure out who we are, and how to deal with difficulties that inevitably come in relationships. It's hard work but as I tell all of my clients, while I cannot do the work for you, I can work as hard as you work alongside you.
